How it works

Expertly Customized for your district

Our GROW Program Designers work with your team to create a program custom-designed for your school — aligning to curriculum and state standards. Programs are designed with the following specifications:

  • Consistent tutor
  • 6-24 weeks duration
  • 1:1 or small groups
  • Multiple sessions per week
  • 30 or 45 min sessions
  • Live video-based sessions with audio and whiteboard
1. Design

Each program is customized to meet a district’s needs and integrated into their curriculum.

2. Launch

Our team works with your district in-person or virtually to ensure a successful kickoff, navigating logistics and technical set up.

3. Implementation

Students meet with the same tutor every week for the program duration for 2-3 sessions per week.

4. Analysis

Daily and weekly assessments highlight areas for improvement and learning opportunities; tutors evolve the program based on data to maximize impact.

5. Conclusion

Impact analysis is completed based on state testing or other agreed-upon metrics.

FAQs

What is the research behind high-impact tutoring?
How many students work with each tutor?

The tutor ratio is 1:1 or small groups, depending on the needs of the district.

Do students work with the same tutor each session?

Yes, each session has the same tutor to allow for continuity and to foster a productive student-tutor relationship.

Do tutors receive training?

Yes, tutors receive comprehensive training in tutoring, working virtually with students, and developing productive tutor-student relationships.

How does GROW align with our district's tiered support system?

GROW is designed for students who need targeted intervention and can free up in-person resources by providing virtual tutoring and by scaffolding students to a level where tier one support is sufficient. Districts may decide to use GROW to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.

How are the tutoring sessions structured?

Tutoring sessions follow a gradual release model, including modeling and guided practice, independent practice, and an exit ticket to evaluate progress made during the session.

How does GROW ensure alignment with our district’s curriculum?

GROW is designed to be standards-aligned and customizable to your district’s pacing guide. We collaborate with your district to understand your specific standards and curriculum needs, ensuring the tutoring sessions support classroom instruction.

How are students grouped for tutoring sessions?

Students are grouped based on their specific needs and performance data, such as iReady scores. The district provides demographic and academic data, and we assign tutors based on subject expertise and grade level experience.

Can schools select tutors for their students?

Tutors are vetted and assigned by Paper based on their qualifications and expertise. However, if a tutor-student match is not effective, adjustments can be made to ensure the best possible support for the student.

What safety and quality measures are in place?

All tutoring sessions are recorded and transcribed for safety and quality assurance. We have 24/7 safety teams monitoring sessions, and any inappropriate interactions can be reviewed and addressed promptly.

How do tutors communicate with classroom teachers?

Tutors relay progress and insights directly to classroom teachers, providing valuable information to supplement classroom instruction. This communication includes progress monitoring data and specific feedback on student engagement and performance.

Can GROW be customized to fit our district’s specific needs?

Yes, GROW can be co-created with the district, aligning with their pacing guides and focusing on the most critical standards and student groups. Programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each district and its students.

How is progress monitored in GROW?

Progress in GROW is monitored through a comprehensive three-part system comprising formative assessments, summative assessments, and detailed analysis and reporting.

Exit Tickets: Each tutoring session concludes with a formative assessment in the form of an exit ticket. These short, focused assessments align with specific learning objectives and allow us to measure what students have learned by the end of each session. They provide immediate feedback and insights into the session's effectiveness.

Mid-Program and End-of-Program Summative Assessments: At the halfway point and the conclusion of the tutoring program, we administer summative assessments. These assessments are critical for evaluating overall proficiency gains and comparing students' performance against their initial benchmarks and objectives set at the program's start.

Analysis and Reporting: Assessment results are meticulously analyzed by Paper’s research team to produce detailed reports that illustrate each student's progress, strengths, and areas needing improvement. These reports are shared with educators and district partners regularly, ensuring transparency and facilitating collaborative discussions on student learning paths.
